An Interview with Jessica Willi, Executive Director, BI Tourism Council
What’s your favorite spot on Block Island?
It depends on the season, but in the Summer I would say it is early evening on Baby Beach.
Would you rather go sailing or parasailing and why?
Parasailing. The view of the island from up there is phenomenal…and it is so quiet up above.
If you could recommend one adventure for visitors to try what would it be?
Stand-up Paddleboarding (aka SUP) love getting out on the ponds and seeing the boats and the birds and the Great Salt Pond up close.
What is a must have item to pack when visiting Block Island?
A Mask
Why would people want to visit BI with family and friends?
Its a great place to connect without many distractions. Leisurely walks on the beach, sunset chasing, trail walking…..
Why should people try a visit to BI solo?
Why not? For the same reason you would visit with family and friends! Also, if you do want someone to chat with, the locals are known to be quite verbose….they love to share their history and their tips for the best things to see and do.
Do you have an embarrassing travel moment that you are willing to share?
I would if I could think of one…it’s been so long since I’ve had the chance to travel!
Do people pick up on your RI accent when you travel out of the area?
Rarely…but I am originally from Massachusetts so my accent is a mix….(not that I think I even have one!)
What item do you always pack but never use when traveling?
Fancy shoes…I always end up in flip-flops no matter the occasion.
What’s the best piece of travel advice you can give to visitors coming to BI?
Be prepared to be flexible. There are more logistics involved with traveling to Block Island than other places….with a little flexibility and patience you will have the trip of a lifetime.
