The Area

Block Island has miles of sandy beaches. From the Fred Benson Town Beach with its pavilion offering restrooms, shower rooms, and a snack bar to secluded remote beaches below towering cliffs, Block Island has a beach to match everyone’s desire. For example, the Town Beach is protected by lifeguards in the summer and generally has gentle waves, while the beaches below Mohegan Bluffs have no facilities and feature vigorous wave action.

When the weather is not suitable for the beach, there is a lot to explore throughout the island. Almost 50% of Block Island is protected from development. Miles of walking trails are open to the public. You can hike through meadows and woods, hear the sounds of a variety of songbirds, smell the fragrances of blooming bushes, and encounter ducks, geese, and other wildlife.
