Recharge

It’s true that Block Island is known to most as a Summer destination. Its pristine beaches and clay structures attract many New Englanders in June, July, and August. However, I would argue that the island is just as beautiful in April. Consider this, a quiet room in the offseason overlooking the serenity that awaits you outdoors. A room that many dream of all year long. A room ready to inspire you to write that book or remove that camera from its prison of a bag. A resort that welcomes you with open arms like a friend who has returned home.

Outside, the streets are not aligned with bikinis and sunhats. There are people bike riding and walking as if they could do so with their eyes closed. These individuals are likely locals but if by chance they are tourists, they are like you and I. They are on the island to experience the tranquility that comes with island living when the weather is cooler than most people would care to experience. It’s time to grab a bike or a good pair of walking shoes and experience the island without the interruption of crowds.

A short ride away is Crescent Beach, a combination of beaches that come together to form a crescent moon outlined with a rock wall standing tall to stop the waves from having too much fun. It’s worth starting at Old Harbor and following the shoreline until the sandy shore narrows to grains not large enough to fit between your toes.

Block Island has several beaches open to visitors and friends all year. The blue space is peaceful even when reaching the destination is an adventure, specifically, the 141 steps it will take you to reach the beach at the bottom of Mohegan Bluffs. The Bluffs are THE place to visit in Spring. To say this place is beautiful is an understatement. It’s heart-stopping. The best thing about visiting in the Spring is that the cooler weather will assist you in getting to the bottom and back up with a greater ease. Bring your cameras or just sit on a rock and listen to the waves. This very moment is what Block Island in the offseason is about. It’s a recharge. It’s forgetting the day to day and concentrating on what makes you happy.

There is no better place to reflect on the day’s recharge than back in your room at the Neptune House, once again overlooking the peaceful outdoors. Reflecting on the day and the inspiration it brought.

There’s no getaway like Block Island. There’s no better place to stay than the Neptune House.
