Visit Neptune House in the Fall!

Visit Neptune House in the Fall!

Fall on the Island is considered by many to be Block Island’s best season.  It’s a time when everyone, locals and guests to our paradise alike, can walk along the island’s beautiful beaches without the crowds. It’s a time to look forward to the Fall seasonal festivities. You can usually find a farmer and artisan’s market, Fall décor in the island’s boutique shops, a pumpkin coffee or cocktail on the area’s restaurant menus, and much more.

Rhode Islanders know summer is coming to a close when we stop hearing the siren song of a radio jingle: “Sail away on the Block Island ferry; take a trip back to carefree times,” voices sing in island patios over steel drums. “Leave today; Block Island awaits you. Just leave your troubles behind.” You’ve visited in the Summer. You’re troubles were left behind but then they crept up again.

The quick jingle that has somehow become the island’s anthem may seem strange for a 10-square-mile island that’s 12 miles off the coast of Rhode Island. But the tiny state of Rhode Island is nothing if not aspirational, and Block Island in the Fall is one of its best-kept secrets.

Simply put, Block Island is the real-life New England island retreat authors love to write about. Complete with rolling hills, stone walls, tales of buried pirate treasure and vacation spots known for Kennedy sightings, Block Island the vacation destination of choice.

At 7 miles long and 3 miles wide, Block Island is meant to be explored by foot, bicycle, or for the more adventurous, mopeds. Besides, the magic is in the exploration.

A treasure to be seen for those willing to put in the effort is the Mohegan Bluffs. Let us talk you into hiking down the steep trail of 140 steps to the rocky and secluded beach below. The 150-foot bluffs are made of green clay, loose to the touch. You’ll know why locals never leave when gazing at the bluffs from the beach.

How about an adventure to think about all year? Maybe chartering a fishing boat is just what you need to enjoy the Fall. Nothing tastes as good as when the catch is yours. There are so many great captains on island that we can recommend! You can also take a walk on the many trails the island has to offer. Maybe rent a bike and ride the coast. All you need is a sweatshirt and a camera to capture a good time.

Once you’ve explored the island’s natural majesties and have found the best Mudslide in town, feel free to end any day in New Harbor. Stop by Payne’s Dock and mingle with the island’s natives. You’ll be happy to experience a consistent lineup of live Irish music.

After the day’s adventures, bring it home with an exceptional stay at Neptune House.
